Dan Penny Loafer Burgundy
$290 $150The loafer is one hell of a thing.
The term “loafers” was born out of an Esquire magazine story in the 1950’s detailing popular-at-the-time “Norwegian Moccasin” shoes photographed on the feet of Norwegian farmers in a cattle loafing area (side note, never knew this was a term until researching this).
The "Penny Loafer" as seen here was initially created by G. H. Bass & Co, nicknamed the "Weejuns" because of their Nordic forefathers. The style was popular with young college students in American Ivy League schools in the 1950s. They featured a strap across the shoe which featured a slot that was claimed to hold a penny (whether it was a 50's era flex or a practicality thing is up for debate). Sebago took things a step further with the creation of the "Beefroll" a feature that sites alongside the penny strap & resembles a fully trussed beef roast hence the nickname.
